Light at the end of the Tunnel

Given that things have looked pretty grim for the good guys (yes, I am talking about us, fellow liberals) I thought that we were due for a little good news.

It seems that a gender neutral marriage bill has passed committee here in California and is on its way to a vote:

Same-sex Shoo-in

More after the jump

Frankly, I am excited.  I was extremely disappointed a few years ago when Proposition 22 passed, but I will forgive my fellow Californians for not understanding what the full ramifications of the proposition.  I wholeheartedly believe that the greater majority of Californians are supportive of marriage equality.

From the article:

"Before the committee discussion had even begun, gender-neutral marriage was a shoo-in.
The bill, redefining marriage as a civil contract between "two persons" rather than between "a man and a woman," was foreordained for easy passage in the Assembly Judiciary Committee on the strength of that body's 2-to-1 Democratic majority. Six of the Democrats on the nine-member committee already had expressed support for the proposed law, signing their names to it as co-authors. And one member, John Laird, D-Santa Cruz, is gay and in a longtime relationship."

So, there is the good news for the day.  Hopefully there will be more where this came from, namely the Democrats aka The Good Guys.
